The first time Keiry stumbled upon the unclaimed territory, she just stayed for a night. Hunted, explored, and slept. She was gone the next afternoon. Having been a loner all her life, she got use to migrating and never staying somewhere for very long. So when she found herself back in the same territory the next month, she was surprised.
Her paws had brought her back to a place she had already been. Something that had never happened. So in spite of herself, she stayed longer this time. A week. Longer than she had ever stayed in one territory.
And she told herself no longer. So by that seventh night, Kei left the beautiful territory. She would miss it, but she wouldn't stay. She was a nomad. Never settled down. Never stopped moving.
But when she found herself back a third time, she knew her old ways were over. Obviously her subconscious wanted her to stay or she wouldn't have found her way back a third time.
So she set to work. She set her borders. One at the edge of a deep trench, another along a river. The third along the end of the thick forest. And the last At the edge of a beautiful clearing. Leaving her with a very large territory.
In her territory, she had a large abundance of prey. She could smell the different smells all over the place. The most common was a lone wolf, but that was to be expected. This had been unclaimed territory.
But now that she had claimed it, she hoped less wolves would intrude. Unless they intended to join her pack.
It was after nightfall that Keiry finished marking her borders. She decided she could afford to sleep for the night. She still had a lot of work to do, and she would need sleep to finish all of it. So the new alphena curled up in a hollowed tree, and fell asleep. Dreaming of a bright new future she had never dreamed up before.
